Yesterday 15th of April we had Seth Cousin in our ICONS Seminar, who gave a talk titled “Attosecond Lighthouse in the Water-Window”.

The abstract of his talk was:

Advances in ultra-fast physics have led to the generation of light pulses with durations in the attosecond regime (10-¹⁸s). Generation of these pulses present extreme technical challenges and have thus far only been generated at low photon energies. Through the combination of our unique laser system and a new technique called the attosecond lighthouse, we generate the first water-window photon energy isolated attosecond pulses.

On 25th of March we held one of our regular meetings. This time we had a lot of topics to cover. On the first hand, we mentioned all the activities that have been taking place lately within our chapter.

We also covered topics like  3D printing ideas, movies projection, team building activity and the EPS meeting on 29th – 30th May. We organized several tasks to be discussed on our next meeting. Members of the new academic affairs organism within our institute visited us and took their chance to propose some ideas regarding the PhD program.

In the proximity of the Large Hadron Collider second run, we hosted the projection of the documentary “Particle Fever”. It is a nice documentary that shows, through the experiences of some scientists, the steps towards the discovery of the Higgs boson. We totally recommend it!
